Academy Performance Analyst (U9-U14)

Derby County Football Club, established in 1884, is one of the founder members of the English Football League and has a rich and varied history, including two First Division titles in 1972 and 1975 and an FA Cup success in 1946. The club are currently playing in the Sky Bet Championship, the second tier of English Football following their promotion from League One in the 2023/24 season and is under the management of Head Coach John Eustace. The club also boasts a successful and respected Category One Academy, a status which has been held since 2014, and a Women’s side competing in the FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division. Derby County recently embarked on an exciting new era following the change in ownership to Clowes Developments (UK) Limited, in the summer of 2022. Derby County Football Club is seeking to recruit a Performance Analyst to join the Performance Analyst department at our Category One Academy.

The successful candidate will aid in the management of the Performance Analysis programme for the Academy (U9-14 teams), providing a blend of innovative solutions alongside current best practice in order to enhance player development through the provision of analytical interventions that underpin improved performance.

Key Responsibilities:

To aid in the development and the management of the Academy Performance Analysis Department and fulfil any such additional directives that may be given from the Academy Lead Performance Analyst and Academy Staff on a regular basis.

To manage, coordinate and schedule the part-time Academy Analysts.

Film and analyse individual and team performances within the Academy, namely the U9-14 teams to the required standard.

Organise and coordinate the collection & distribution of match footage for the U9-14 age groups.

Undertake training, pre-match, post-match and live analysis of Academy players in order to provide coaches and players with feedback.

Work in conjunction with coaches and analysts to build presentations for game/individual performance reviews (statistical and video)

Build performance profiles using databasing and statistical reporting techniques

Provide coaches and players with trend analysis information to advance the identification and interpretation of player performance profiles.

Aiding with coach development by filming sessions and producing a report in line with the Coach Analysis Process.

Carry out analysis, filming, coding and video editing – providing insights to relevant coaching staff and creating detailed reports, utilising telestration tools, to facilitate player learning opportunities.

Responsible for maintaining an up-to-date database of matches and events as well as producing motivational and educational videos using DCFC and best practice footage.

Create an age-appropriate education framework – relating to team, unit and individual learning styles.

Sharing of relevant video, data and other resources with all key stakeholders (staff, players and parents) where applicable using a variety of different platforms.

Provide education to all key stakeholders (staff, players and parents) on how to use a variety of platforms.

Undertake available training courses and research to enhance personal knowledge, skills and experience.

Utilises all available resources including the latest research and to collaborate with a successful network of external clinical specialists and University links.

To attend briefings, courses and seminars, as able or as required by the Club, The Premier League, and The Football League and commit to undertake Continued Professional Development.

Keep abreast of current research and the latest developments in Sports Analysis practice and suggest ideas to assist with continuous improvement accordingly.

To demonstrate consistent high standards of behaviour and to operate within the parameters of the club code of conduct, the Laws of the Game, the Rules of the Football Association or the Rules of the FA Premier League.

General

Personal characteristics and experience:

Excellent IT skills (Mac and PC) and knowledge of databases, SQL and reporting capabilities, and working with raw data files such as XML & CSV.

Robust skills and knowledge of videography, coding, data analytics and animating.

Excellent people management skills.

Confident, resilient and self motivated.

Excellent Communications skills both verbal and written, with an ability to positively influence.

Excellent presentation skills.

Ability to work in a fast paced, target driven environment.

Ability to prioritise and manage own workload.

Work using own initiative and as part of a team

Experience of working in a performance analysis role within the football environment at elite level and/or experience of coaching elite players.

Experience of being in an Analysis setting, with line management responsibility (desirable).

Experience of working in a Category 1 Academy or First Team

Experience in the manipulation of performance data sets and visualisations.

Experienced user of software such as, but not limited to Piero/Hudl/Sportscode/Studio /Wyscout/StatsBomb, with demonstrable knowledge of other performance analysis software.

Advanced coding & visualisation ability such as R/ Python/ XML/ XSLT /Power BI (desirable).

Demonstrable extensive technical & tactical football knowledge with the ability to contextualise the knowledge for player facing material.

Essential Qualifications:

Undergraduate qualification in an appropriate discipline (E.g. Performance Analysis, Sports Science)

Desirable Qualifications:

Postgraduate qualification in an appropriate discipline (E.g. Performance Analysis, Sports Science)

FA recognised coaching qualification or overseas equivalent (e.g. FA Level 2)

Competitive salary dependent on experience.

This is a full-time position working 35 hours per week. Due to the demands of a professional football environment, working evenings and weekends is required.
