1.     The Department

Aston Villa Men’s First Team Performance Analysis Team have been pivotal in the success of our Men’s First Team during Season 2024/2025, in preparing for and supporting outstanding player performances within the Premier League and European Champions League Competitions. Our Men’s First Team – Performance Analysis Team is responsible for providing detailed data-driven insights and information into player and team performance to support vital coaching decisions and match outcomes.

 

In order to build on our success, our Men’s First Team – Performance Analysis Team are looking to recruit a Set Piece Analyst to continue our commitment to innovation, continuous improvement and support excellence in execution.

 

2.     The Role

Working as a Set Piece Analyst, you will be responsible for analysing match footage and training sessions with an aim to identify areas of improvement as well as the effectiveness of set piece routines.

 

You will assist in the preparation of set piece training sessions which will include the design and execution of drills in order to enhance players understanding; as well as monitoring and assessing opponents set piece tendencies to provide strategies recommendations to the coaching staff.

 

You will work closely with the Set Piece Coach and Football Research Department to question trends and use data to measure performance as well as develop, implement and refine set piece strategies for both attacking and defending situations.

3.     The Person

We are seeking an organised, dedicated, detail-orientated Set Piece Analyst with a strong analytical background, a deep understanding of set piece strategies and a passion to help the team maximise performance during critical match situations. The successful candidate also must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Science, Data Analysis, Statistics, or a related field, and/or UEFA coaching licence.

You will need to have proven experience in football analysis role and a strong knowledge of football tactics – preferably with a focus on set pieces. You must be a proficient user in video analysis software (e.g Hudl and Wyscout) and data analysis tools.

In order to ensure information is effectively communicated, you will need to have clear, concise and accurate verbal and written communication skills and be able to thrive under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

This role will require flexibility in terms of working hours (which will include evenings, weekends and matchdays), in addition you must be able to travel as and when required both nationally and internationally.
